Meet Samaad Barnes

My name is Samaad Barnes. I started Pure Love Pies with my brother, Joshua Barnes. Most of our customers know of Pure Love as a family-owned retail bakery that opened in Bloomfield, New Jersey in 2017. But, the bakery has a very humbling back story that many may not be aware of. The foundation of our entrepreneurial vision is our late mother’s lifelong legacy of recipe and her amazing home-cooked meals. She had a very broad repertoire. Mom put the “comfort” in comfort foods and she prepared everything from “fish sauce” to navy bean and butternut squash soup. 

For years, I begged my mom to teach me her treasured recipes and for years, she turned me down. Mama Barnes had 9 children who relied on her to prepare delicious and healthy meals. She was absolutely essential. I am yet to sample the product of any cook, chef or baker that can rival the love, warmth and creativity my mother’s recipes. We were very poor but mom taught us that our love for the family should be expressed regularly. What better way to say “I love you” than to prepare something tasty and irresistible? We learned to value community, family, education and entrepreneurship from our father and the principles within the Nation of Islam. These values are embedded in the bedrock of our business. Faith remains the very cornerstone of our passion and principle all these years. 

Thanks to our dear mother, we bake love into every bite. Every ingredient and process is special. Her legacy is the reason Pure Love Pies in Bloomfield has been called the #1 pie shop in New Jersey by USA Today Travel! We are so proud to call our customers family and friends.
